Out With the Old, In With the New: The Car Edition

So before I had my 1992 Corolla (Shaquieda) and I loved her dearly. But she unfortunately is no more and now I have a new baby!

She's a 2005 Volvo. Black and sleek. A compact car for sure. But I love her none-the-less.

Now, here is my dilemma; What do I name her???

Right now I am in between two choices:

1. Brooklyn: Kind of a classy name, yet still reminiscent of a stripper.
2. Demetria: Short would be Demi (like Demi Lovato because I love her).

Can't decide!! HELP!

OH and I got my first set of custom plates! They say DREWX2 because I am Drew and I go to Drew so Drew times 2!

Old Favorite, New Season: So You Think You Can Dance

I apologize for not writing this last night, I was exhausted!

A new season has started of So You Think You Can Dance and I could not be more excited! It is one of my all time favorite shows and I've watched all ten seasons now with my mom and it's one of my favorite times of the week!

This weeks audition city was Boston and boy did it deliver. Auditions are probably my least favorite part of the show but Vegas week is in two weeks and that is my favorite part!

Over the years there have been a great number of dances on the show and I thought, with my theme in mind (old favorites revisited) I would give you a Buzzfeed worthy list of my top ten favorite dances of all time!

So here we go!

10. Romeo and Juliet: Season 5
Style: Classical Pas De Deux
Dancers: Melissa and Ade
Choreographer: Thordal Christensen
Why: It was a beautiful ballet piece (one of the first ever on the show!) and it was so well done. I just watched it over and over again on repeat.

9. Mercy: Season 4
Style: Contemporary
Dancers: Katee and Twitch
Choreographer: Mia Michaels
Why: It was fun! The door was a great prop and the passion that the two of them had was clear and just all around fun to watch!

8.If it Kills Me: Season 5
Style: Contemporary
Dancers: Jeanine and Jason
Choreographer: Travis Wall
Why: It was beautiful. (The answer every time, I know) But truly one of the best dances. This was the dance that I realized Jeanine was probably going to win!

7. No Air: Season 4
Style: Lyrical Hip Hop
Dancers: Katee and Joshua
Choreographer: Tabitha and Napoleon D'umo
Why: This list wouldn't be complete without a "Napitabs" routine! It was well done, beautifully danced, and overall just took my breathe away!

6.Calling You: Season 2
Style: Contemporary
Dancers: Travis and Heidi
Choreographer: Mia Michaels
Why: One of the most memorable dances without a doubt and just wonderfully done. It inspired me to get back into dance which I am so pleased about!

5.Time: Season 3
Style: Contemporary
Dancers: Lacey and Neil
Choreographer: Mia Michaels
Why: This piece made me bawl like a baby. It is so touching and just the emotion that the dancers had and the heart and soul Mia put into it made it one of my all time favorites.

4. Dreaming With A Broken Heart: Season 4
Style: Contemporary
Dancers: Twitch and Kherington
Choreographer: Mia Michaels
Why: The bed was an amazing prop, again. The way that the dance flowed and just seemed effortless was amazing and I love watching it over and over again.

3. This Woman's Work: Season 5
Style: Contemporary
Dancers: Melissa and Ade
Choreographer: Tyce Diorio
Why: TEARS. TEARS EVERYWHERE. This was just so beautiful and the two of them together, and just WAH. Way to go Tyce, probably one of the most emotional dances ever.

2. Bleeding Love: Season 4
Style: Lyrical Hip Hop
Dancers: Chelsie and Mark
Choreographer: Tabitha and Napoleon D'umo
Why: By far the best hip hop piece done by two non-hip hopers (or just in general) ever. I love it so much and I watch it again and again.

AND MY ALL TIME FAVORITE DANCE:
1. Gravity: Season 5
Style: Contemporary
Dancers: Kayla and Kupono
Why: BECAUSE ALL OF THE EMOTIONS. It is packed full of everything that should ever be in any dance. The emotions and relativity were so close to my heart at the time (and still are) and the intensity in which it was danced was amazing.

So there you go! That's my top ten list of all time on So You Think You Can Dance. I know it is heavy in seasons 4 and 5 and that's because they were my favorite seasons and the dances were the most memorable to me. Mia Michaels also appears on the list a lot because her choreography always has such a great story that it always gets me going.

Two others that are worth mentioning are Fix You and Sweet Dreams.

Again these are just my favorites and I honestly could do dances from each season that get me going, but that would be an even longer post!

An Old Favorite: "Ever After"

So I just watched the movie "Ever After" with my mom, an all time personal favorite! Instead of summarizing it or reviewing it, I thought I would share some of my favorite moments in it!

Favorite Actor/Actress: This honestly could have been any of them, they were all great. Something I noticed this time around was that they all have great little things they do that just add to their character; whether that be the way they hold their faces, or walk, or even speak.

But if I was picking one, it would be, without a shadow of a doubt, Angelica Huston. Her role as the step-mother in this movie was just spot on. Every little detail was perfect. Her true love for her dead husband, her jealousy of Danielle, and even the way she held her mouth. It was truly a great high for her.

Favorite Moment: Again the whole movie. But, for me, the best moment will always be the the attempted wedding between Prince Henry and the Spanish Princess. Her uncontrollable sobbing is just priceless and the King and Queen of France's reactions are perfect.

Favorite Lines:  I have two, one serious quote and one, not so serious quote.

Serious: "The point is, gentlemen, that they lived" This quote is at the very end, and was just trying to say that they didn't have to live happily ever after, they just had to live and be together and broke down conventional fairy tale endings (even though they are happy....oops).

Funny: "Divorce is something they only do in England" I just can't help but laugh every time the Queen says this!

This was such a great way to start my summer vacation. I will probably watch this movie a thousand more times before the break is up!

Me!

So I guess I should tell you a bit about myself huh?

So my name is Andrew and I am originally from/grew up in Chicago, IL and moved to Portland, ME about 8 years ago.

Yup dats me and my friend Liz! Say hi Liz! <3

Currently I go to school at Drew University in Madison, NJ and am studying Theatre and Sociology as my majors and Business and Arts Administration as my minors (I'm a bit of an over achiever)

I also am an active member of DUDS (Drew University Dramatic Society), play volleyball and Ultimate Frisbee, am President/Founder of HopeNow (an anti-bullying awareness and activism group), President of our Sociology Club, Orientation Committee member, Co-Chair of Special Events on our University Programming Board, and work for the Alumni House and Student Activities. OH and I am a tour guide. Kinda crazy, but I would rather by busy than bored!

I live in a theme house (kinda like a fraternity, but not really) called Asia Tree house and it is my favorite.

During the summer, I wait tables at Cracker Barrel (kewlest kid around) and work at a performing arts day camp (which I adore).

I love old movies and planning people's weddings.

That's basically me.

Hey Guys!

Heyoo!

So my friend Grace got herself a blog this summer and when I was looking through it, I was like, huh,  I really want to blog now. So here we are. It's also 1:23 AM, which is always a disastrous time to be awake.

I had a blog when I was younger, circa 8th grade. And my friends all made fun of me because I could not and would not spell anything right or use proper grammar. Oops.

But things have changed since 8th grade, quite a bit actually (for the better I hope).

So, what am I going to blog about?

Well, that's a good question. This is going to seem strange, but every vacation that I have to spend at home I have a theme for. This summer, I chose to do "What's Old is New" (hence the blog title). All summer I am going to visit old favorites (movies, songs, music videos, restaurants, etc.) and also do new things and just blog about it all!

I know you are thinking that is an easy way out because now I can blog about anything.

You are correct. I really just like to talk about everything and this seems a good way to do it!

I hope you all enjoy this, and if you don't, it's okay, because I am a narcissist.

Andrew
